Hi All
Just thought I would ask who is trying with the Softbills this year & what you will be hopefully breeding with
I have quite a list for myself, probably way to much - but I am sure I will squeeze them all in someohow
3 pair Common Redstart
2 pair Song Thrush
2 pair Skylarks
1 pair of Pied Wagtails (currently 1 defo pair & 1 possible pair)
1 pair of Dunnocks (currently 1 defo pair & 1 possible pair)
1 pair Stonechats
1 pair Blackbirds
1 pair Bearded Reedlings
I have me last show in 2 weeks time & I have hardly started getting things ready for breeding - but I am not going to rush things this year, hopefully holding back a bit as I am sure it gives better results.

Not a bad list Dave m8)
Yeah - I certainly got some work to get done to make sure I get them all settled into breeding quarters soon
Some such as Redstarts we do not need to worry about for another 5 - 6 weeks, but the Thrushes we will need to get sorted in another 2 or 3 weeks
I actually had thrushes on eggs this date last year, but they ended up coming off the nest & had a poor season.
Another pair I had held back last year did not have first round until 6th Apil & had a much better season giving me 3 rounds
I still have a new flight to build & then clean out & prepare the small softbill flights
I am hoping its going to be a half decent day tomorrow & not the rain forecast, as its me only day off this week

Yeh, this year seems to have flown by...and the breeding season is coming up fast...hope you manage to get it all sorted soon......
Luckily the starts are later..... what about the Bearded Reedlings....when are you going to put yours into a breeding flight?
The thrushes are getting interested as are the starlings!! Was working today and saw 2 blackbirds building nests!!

Plenty of people with the Songies then
Viper, with the trio, you ideally need to split them up (if you have not already) as one of them (if you have a cock bird amongst them) should be singing its head off by now.
You can only end up with the one pair in the breeding flight & the spare one needs to be out of sight to prevent interference.
Steve, to be honest you can keep a pair of small softbills with thrushes, if the flight is big enough but you would either need to give them an area that only the small birds can get in, to protect any nest by say sectioning it off with 2" mesh or the thrushes would take any chicks!
In my opinion though keep to one species per flight.
I sent you a PM ref trying to get you another bird
